6TH GRADE TOOLS FOR LEARNING SYLLABUS

Course Description: This is a nine-week course designed to help students develop speed and accuracy by learning the touch operation of alphanumeric/keyboard
characters. Emphasis is placed on the following: mastery of the keyboard with desirable keyboarding techniques, development of speed and accuracy, and proper care of
the equipment. Keyboarding is foundational for developing entry-level skills for business careers.  There is also an emphasis on the tools that students need to succeed in their classes which include
organizational skills.
 

PURPOSE OF COURSE:     Keyboarding is for students to develop the skill of entering information using the touch method on a keyboard. Keyboarding skills will be useful while in high school or college and in business, community, and personal activities.
 
 

OBJECTIVES:

   1. Develop keyboard mastery.

   2. Use correct techniques while operating the keyboard.

   3. Develop speed and accuracy according to the established scales.

   4. Develop proficiency in proofreading.

   5. Develop the ability to compose at the keyboard.

   6. Develop proficiency in formatting, editing, and printing personal
       business letters, tabulations, reports, and outlines.

   7. Develop proficiency in employability skills such as resume and
       application form.

   8. Develop an awareness of student organization.
 
 

COURSE OUTLINE:

1st Five-Week Period

   1. Identify computer system components and operating system.

   2. Learn alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys.

   3. Learn keyboarding techniques.

   4. Demonstrate speed and accuracy in keying straight-copy materials.

   5. Proofread keyboarded work.
 
 

2nd Four-Week Period

   1. Demonstrate speed and accuracy in keying straight-copy materials.

   2. Proofread keyboarded work.

   3. Compose non-technical documents.

   4. Produce and edit personal business letters, reports, tabulated
       information, and outlines.

   5. Produce resume and application form.
