Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to Forest Heights Middle School Tools for Learning.  This course lasts for nine weeks and will last a 90 minute block.  The touch method of keying will be taught.  Development of speed and accuracy aptitude will be stressed.  Proper technique is essential and emphasized daily.  Students will also learn formatting skills necessary to produce word processing documents.  Part of Tools for Learning will include instruction on conflict resolution and the proper use of the student notebook and agenda.

Keyboarding Course Description and Outline
This course offers instruction on the computer keyboard. Students will develop basic skills in touch typing and learn proper use and care of equipment and materials. General computer literacy will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on keyboarding technique and timed keyboarding drills; as well as organization and following oral and written directions.

Materials Needed for Class
Students will bring their school notebook to class.  I will be loving over it to make sure they are using their agenda’s and keeping their binder in order.  Please keep the binder filled with paper and pencils for your student to use in all classes.  Please donate one ream or package of printer paper to the computer lab to cover paper usage.

Make Up, Homework, Class work, and Testing Policy
Students who are absent or know of an upcoming planned absence are responsible for seeing the teacher about missed work or make arrangements to complete work in advance of the absence. Late homework is graded at 50% of full credit and will
receive a zero (0) after five days late. Failed tests maybe reassessed to improve the grade up to 80%. Students must make arrangements within 2 class days to improve a failed test grade. Class work assignments must be completed in the computer lab. Class work assignments completed outside of the lab will not be accepted for credit.

Computer Lab Rules
Be on time to class and bring materials.  Follow proper procedures to begin and end class.  Follow directions. Stay in assigned seat.  No gum, food or drink.  No cell phones or other contraband items.  Treat equipment with care.  Internet allowed only with permission and on approved websites. Grade Scale:

80-89% = B
70-79%= C
60-69% = D
59% and Below = F
